Burns Monument Destroyed by fire

The Burns Monument, in the Kay Park Kilmarnock, was destroyed by fire in the early hours of 19th November 2004. The monument, has been regularly vandalised, despite the building having been fully restored as recently as the early 1990s.

All that remains of the Burns monument is part of the front section, which contains an important statue of Robert Burns. Despite the destruction of the building, the saving of the front section means that rebuilding is a possibility.  The AAHT, together with Common Ground Scotland, a cultural organisation, had expressed an interest in working with the Council to provide a solution. The AAHT would be happy to contribute to a joint study into the future of the monument.
